The Blight and Beautification Committee is currently focusing on three projects in the Fight Back West area. New volunteers are always welcome to join us.

Coronado Park Improvements
Through the federally funded Community Development Block Grant Program, the neighborhood has applied for a grant of $100,000 dedicated to landscaping and recreational enhancements at Coronado Park, 12th and Palm Lane.

Our application is currently under review with the City's Parks and Recreation Department and is expected to be submitted to the City Council for approval in early October 2004. We can apply for additional funding in subsequent years (at a maximum of $100,000 per year) to finish all needed park improvements.

Zoning Violations
The Committee has been working with Joe Aposhian to correct zoning violations throughout the Fight Back West area since January 2004. A pamphlet listing violations is available on the City's website at http://phoenix.gov/NSD/top8_eng.pdf. Many improvements have been noted in the neighborhood over the past 8 months. The Committee continues to work with Joe to correct violations.

Tree Planting
A proposed community tree planting project is in its infancy. The goal would be to improve the streetscape in Coronado by adding more trees in front of both residential and commercial properties.

A comprehensive plan and budget will be presented at the November Fight Back meeting and a short presentation (to gauge neighborhood interest) will be presented at the October GCNA General meeting on October 7th. If there is interest, reduced cost tree planting would begin in late fall. Volunteers will be needed.
