Traffic Kickoff November 13!

Postby Maureen » Wed Nov 10, 2004 6:07 pm

We need a few good people to help collect signatures for traffic solutions this weekend:

Traffic Kickoff
This Saturday
November 13
9am
Coronado Park (12th and Palm)

Join us for brunch and good company. Then help your neighbors collect signatures for an hour. (We are well organized. As usual, playing in traffic will be fun.) In a social atmosphere, we can catch you up on all the cool things that have happened since October 21st.

We may not be ready to collect signatures along Virginia, since traffic engineer Steve McKenzie is begging more time to come up with a "creative and unique design" to calm traffic from 7th to 12th Streets. But you can join us for brunch anyway and sign up to help collect signatures another day, too.

If you missed seeing the traffic results and voting on the solutions at the October 21st Fight Back West, visit http://www.gcna.info/fight_back/traffic.htm for an update.

Let me hear from you. We need your help to move these solutions into reality.

Playing in Traffic

The Fight back Traffic Kickoff!

What can I say it was a dry martini with three olives and a splash.

What a great gathering 9:00AM, about 25 people came and went, at Coronado Park this morning. Coffee and bagels from Einstein’s Bagels. Maureen displayed her new craft project, illustrations of the solutions that we have accomplished (color coded to match) and the projections for future projects. We distributed petition packets for Speed Humps and Tables for those who wanted them as solutions in their areas. Country Club park, many from the Race Courses (soon to be no longer named that, those guys are motivated) east of North High, and along 13th past the Park. Maureen slapped nametags on Allen and I and we headed off to get the signatures on 13th Street. We were 100% success, and met some of the “names” from the discussion list. After talking to those neighbors we encouraged them to join Maureen and the group at the Park. Upon our return there were the neighbors, we had sent, visiting and conversing about the Park, the Forum, the people and the weather. Neighbors were eager to talk of their home improvements, and especially interesting were those who brought to life some of the History of Coronado Park with stories of the Park when it was Fenced with Iron.

A number of supporters for the next phases on 12th Street and other locations, not included in the present Fight back.

We got lots of positive response for helping on the Virginia Project when we have the plans. The rumor is that we will have them by the November 18th Meeting 6:30 Emerson School, along with Maureen’s “accomplishment displays”.

Andrea was there to make sure that everyone “Got Trees”. If you don’t then come to the Fight back meeting on the 18th and she will make sure you “Get Trees”.

Cannot express how much fun it was to meet new neighbors and have everyone enjoying the Coronado Park. And have the conversations wander all over subjects as we discovered some really interesting things about each other, out lives, jobs, interests, neighborhood and our homes.

It was a great gathering. Thank you to all who made it to the park to share ideas, hear what's going on, collect signatures, and offer to help to collect the signatures we'll need to tackle Virginia Street in the next few weeks--Maureen
