Solar Project in Coronado

Postby bobmeitz » Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:54 pm

This Friday there will be a Historic Preservation Hearing at Phoenix City Hall on a request to install solar collectors on a home at the intersection of Virginia and Richland in Country Club Park.

I am not sure how many other such installations have been proposed lately, but I don’t recall seeing any extensive solar arrays in Coronado. Nor am I aware of any general policies or viewpoints concerning the compatibility of solar arrays with the historic character of the neighborhood.

According to the notice, the owner proposes to install collectors over much of the roof including the entire west and south slopes of the roof and on the roof of a “Patio Cover” on the east side of the house. Most of these collectors will be clearly visible from other properties across both Virginia and Richland St.

The hearing is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Friday, July 9th, at the Phoenix City Hall. The reference is Case HP149-10-7.

It’s not clear what restrictions the hearing authority may put on such a project, but it would raise concerns if the installation turns out to be unsightly and intrusive, not only to its immediate neighbors, but also to others passing on Virginia Avenue, which is rather well-traveled for a tertiary street.

If you are interested in historic preservation, solar power, their intersection or the process of approving changes to properties wthin a designated historic neighborhood or would like to register your opinion on the proposal, attend the hearing this Friday afternoon at 1:00 O'Clock!
