Virginia Park Renovation

Virginia Park (Virginia Rd. and 15th Street) has been in need of a major overhaul, and thanks to concerned neighbors we were able to present ideas for the park to the folks at the Parks Department. The process was a speedy one and the Virginia Park renovations should be complete by early summer.

The City of Phoenix came up with funds through the sales tax and some bond funds to make the project happen. Parks and Recreation has been concerned about the condition of Virginia Park, so the timing was perfect. Joe Diaz, a landscape architect for Parks came up with a park plan that incorporates a shaded ramada, loads more trees and some inventive playground equipment. Designs are attached. Thanks to all of the folks at Parks and Neighborhood Services for making this happen. We will continue to write grants for lighting and other amenities. Additionally, we have raised close to $1000 from Home Tour ticket sales that will go directly to Virginia Park improvements. Virginia Park Plan

Coronado Park Renovation

A special park planning meeting was held Thursday January 7th, 2010 at Emerson School Media Room 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.

In 2006, Coronado Park was the recipient of bond funds in the last bond election. In 2007 a committee comprised of neighborhood residents met for over two years to come up with suggestions for park improvements. From this large committee a group of five members formed a steering committee that has been diligently working for over six months with City Parks to develop a new Coronado Park Master Plan so we can begin to use those funds. Please take a moment to review the Master Plan. Construction is set to begin September 2010.
